Schedule emails for later

Hi! I was having a conversation with a friend recently and she needed to send an email at 9 AM in the morning to be eligible for a certain prize. To avoid missing the time, she saved a draft of the email and set an alarm for 8.55 AM. When she told me this, I told her: "You know you can just schedule the email to be sent later, right?"I know, I know, I was THAT guy, but this post wouldn't exist otherwise. So let's learn how to schedule emails so people think we have our lives together.

This week's YouTube video:

1. Open your Gmail

2. Enable keyboard shortcuts in settings

This step is relevant now and in the future. Shortcuts are awesome; you should use them often.

i) Click the Settings Gear in the top right corner of the Gmail interface and click See all settings

ii) Under Settings, under the General tab, activate keyboard shortcuts, then scroll down and Save changes.

iii) Press "g" then "i" on your keyboard in quick succession to return to your inbox. Congratulations on using your first shortcut!

iv) Press "c" to compose a new email and type a random email to yourself

v) Once the email is done, click the downward arrow next to Send to reveal Schedule send

vi) Schedule a time you want the email to go out and you're done!

Bonus Content

While browsing YouTube University, and thanks to one of my favourite YouTubers, Jeff Su, I found a great tool called Scribe. Scribe is a great way to make written instructional content. All you have to do is download the extension, and when you are ready, click it to start recording, do the demo and click it to stop recording. Scribe takes a screenshot every time you click on the screen and adds helper text. I made a Scribe of today's tutorial here to show you how it works.

I can also embed the tutorial here (basically this post has been reduced to just this slideshow. How awesome!)

When would you use Scribe? You may have to teach new hires how to use a particular system at work. You can add a series of scribes to an onboarding document. Or perhaps people always ask you how to do a specific thing on the internet. You can make a scribe and share it whenever someone DMs you.

Thank me by subscribing, liking and sharing this post.

Conclusion

The next you tell someone you'll send them an email first thing in the morning, you can schedule it while you are in a bar.

Have a great week!
