Most Excel beginners know how to enter data and add numbers together. However, since I am rooting for you never to be mediocre, I want to show you how to add multiple figures together without the usual hustle of selecting all the numbers in a range and using the SUM function.

But first, here is this week's video:

Use the Autosum shortcut

Here is our sample data

What if we want to add Totals for each month and each person in the grey sections below ⬇️

We can use the SUM function repeatedly ⬇️

OR, in a non-mediocre way, we can use the Autosum shortcut Alt + = for PC or ⌘ + Shift + T for Mac ⬇️

Select all the data including the Total column and row, use your keyboard shortcut, and you're done!

While Autosum looks like magic, the keyboard shortcut simply leverages Excel's intuition to use the SUM function in the way you intended before you met me 😉 . See for yourself ⬇️

SUM function is still used by Excel

Conclusion

I hope this trick saves you some time this week.

Have a good week ✌🏾
